The Emotional and Behavior Problem Scale-Second Edition: Renormed (EBPS-2:R) School and Home Versions were developed to aid in diagnosis, placement, and planning for emotionally disturbed/behaviorally disordered children and youth from 5 through 18 years of age. Two interpretations of the items on the scale are provided. The Theoretical Interpretation is based on the federal definition of emotional disturbance (IDEA). Each subscale is associated with one of the five characteristics of emotional disturbance contained in the federal definition.

Items are clear, concise, and written for teachers to use in documenting student behavior problems. Pre-referral and screening will be served by this scale and diagnosis will be facilitated by the observational ratings of teachers and other educators who complete the rating forms. Internal consistency, test-retest, and inter-rater reliability; item and factor analysis; and content, criterion-related, diagnostic, and construct validity are documented and reported for the scale.
The EBPS-2:R provides information to school psychologists, diagnosticians, and guidance counselors to use in making diagnostic decisions about appropriate placement and services for students with emotional and behavioral problems.

The Emotional and Behavior Problem Scale IEP and Intervention Manual (167 pages, © 1989) links behavioral assessment and intervention by providing goals, objectives, and an average of 33 interventions for each behavior problem. By carefully following assessment results with intervention, student success in the educational environment is maximized.
